UKWA CEO Visits Condale for the Year of Warehousing 2024

Condale Plastics was pleased to recently host Clare Bottle, CEO of the UK Warehousing Association (UKWA), as part of her nationwide tour celebrating their 80th anniversary with the “Year of Warehousing 2024.” The visit provided an opportunity to highlight the integral role of extruded plastics manufacturing in various sectors across the UK.

During her time at Condale Plastics (visit number 44 of 80), Clare was given an in-depth look at our production processes, from designing and fabricating custom tooling to creating diverse plastic products. She observed firsthand the intricate techniques involved in shaping various grades of plastic, including recycled materials like PVC windows, into complex forms used in applications ranging from lighting and shop fittings to medical devices and aerospace components. The visit also included a tour of the facility’s warehousing operations, emphasising the importance of efficient storage and logistics in manufacturing.

“We were delighted to welcome Clare Bottle from the UKWA and share our expertise in extruded plastics with her,” said Michael Stewart, Managing Director of Condale Plastics. “I’d like to thank her on behalf of our whole team for her genuine interest in our work and the broader warehousing sector. It was really encouraging. We’re proud to be part of an industry that plays a crucial role in the UK economy.”

Clare commented on her visit, saying, “Today I learned about the manufacture of extruded plastics here in the UK by Condale Plastics Limited for everything from lighting, crash barriers, and shop fittings to specialist applications in medicine and aerospace.

Over 90 people work to design and build intricate dies and tools, then create the most amazing shapes from various grades and types of plastic… They even showed me how to make a micro prismatic profile! Thank you to Michael Stewart, Mark Fenwick and all the team for a brilliant visit.”

Celebrating the UKWA ’80 Years of Warehousing’

The UKWA is underway with its 80th anniversary. This momentous occasion spotlights the pivotal role of warehousing in the UK economy and its contribution to achieving net zero goals. The celebration includes an ambitious initiative, “Around the Warehouses in 80 Visits,” where Clare embarks on a nationwide tour of 80 warehouses.

This unique journey aims to showcase the diverse and dynamic world of warehousing, inviting warehouses of all sizes to participate and share their stories. The Year of Warehousing will also highlight the significant contribution of warehousing and logistics to the UK economy, employing over a million people and contributing £163 billion GVA. It highlights the industry’s unsung heroes, promotes industry standards, and raises awareness of the diverse career opportunities available.
